The University Council is the highest academic authority of the institution. It is integrated by: the Rector, who serves as chairperson; the deans of the graduated and under-graduate schools, and institutes; representatives of the teaching staff and students of the graduate and under-graduate schools; representatives of the researchers listed in the research institutes, and a representative of the university workers.
The Secretary General also carries out this function in the Council. In accordance with UNAM Organic Law, the University Council has the right to issue the norms and general regulations aimed at the best organization and functioning of the University's technical, teaching, and administrative functions.
The Council works in plenary sessions or commissions, and in ordinary or extraordinary sessions. In a plenary session, a quorum of more than the half number of the Council's members, plus one must exist; except for a discussion, which requires a special majority. |
